Bovis Lend Lease is knocked right out of monthly top 30 for January – but still hanging on to annual lead

A single project worth £135m catapulted Sir Robert McAlpine to the top of the monthly contractors’ league in January.

The company was appointed by developer Land Securities and Exeter council as main contractor on the development of Princesshay shopping precinct in Exeter, Devon.

Kier Group took second place winning 18 contracts worth £95m and Balfour Beatty came in third place, with nine deals worth £94m.

Although Bovis Lend Lease did not make the top 30 contractors in January, it stayed on top of the annual league, with 26 projects worth £1.5bn under its belt.

The upper reaches of the annual chart remained static, with the top nine all non-movers.

Building Design Partnership, Davis Langdon and the Department of Health all hung on to pole position in their respective leagues.
