Atkins’ new president talks about embracing digital, his plans to grow the firm outside the UK and his determination to transform construction’s broken models
Walking into Philip Hoare’s office in Victoria’s Nova North building is like stepping into the interior of a highly organised mind. There’s no trace of clutter on the desk and table, which are placed at exact right angles to the clinically white, blank walls. Everything is kept in its designated place – including our meeting. The interview with the new president of Atkins starts exactly on time.
However, it is immediately clear that within this strictly delineated space, Hoare himself is affable and flexible. Jumping from his seat, he exudes enthusiasm – introducing himself as Phil rather than Philip – and his palpable excitement for his new job, company and industry is – if not surprising – refreshing.
