Rural contracting firms could be in line for a £15 000 windfall as compensation for loss of work during the foot-and-mouth crisis.
The Government has added an extra £24 million to the Rural Business Recovery Fund. The total is now up to £50 million.
The money is to be distributed to all businesses affected, so construction firms will have to join the queue alongside tourism-related firms and others.
"They will have to prove loss of business and apply to their local regional development agency," said a DETR spokesperson.
