The latest two mega-pixel versions, the RPU-C2512 desktop mount model and the RPU-C3522 ceiling mount versions add to Sony Europe’s range of 360 degree panoramic cameras, at the same time offering significant improvements over their predecessors in terms of overall image quality.

Auto white balance on the second generation RPU-C2512/C3522 models has been improved, there is better electrical shutter speed control and additional control functions have been added for hue, saturation and brightness. Provision has also been made for Visca command protocol control via an optional RS-232 communication board.

The RPU-A001 allows for the RPU camera modules to be easily controlled by software. Furthermore, CCD white dot correction and noise reduction functions significantly enhance the rendered picture quality.

Sony’s RPU cameras feature a unique 360 degree annular (ie full circle) lens system and a two mega-pixel, 7.5 frames per second CCD sensor to facilitate the output of a ring-shaped image as a composite video signal. In other words, end users are able to watch a full, live and undistorted panoramic image without having to combine or ‘stitch’ shots together with the aid of complex software, multiple cameras or even multiple images.

All PTZ functions are controlled digitally or via software commands, while a simple interface provides outputs of seven unique image sets from the raw 360 degree annular image (including a new ‘rear view mirror’ mode for applications in the automotive sector).
