6:30PM Manhattan tradition of building tall continues with new 78-storey office tower at 200 Greenwich Street, New York

Architect Fosters and Partners has revealed its designs for a landmark tower on the former site of the World Trade Centre.

Column free office floors rise to the 59th floor while at street level the double-height glass-walled lobby has connections with the nearby subway station. The building also features 24 passenger elevators and 7 high-speed shuttle elevators.

The site is designed to the highest energy efficiency ratings, and will seek to achieve the gold standard under the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) by the US Green Building Council.

Lord Foster said: "The crystalline top of the tower respects the masterplan and bows down to the memorial park commemorating the tragic events that unfolded here. But it is also a powerful symbol of hope for the future. The dramatic height of the tower celebrates the spirit that has historically driven Manhattan to build tall, and the diamond-shaped top will be a crowning landmark on the city's skyline."

The structural engineer is WSP Cantor Seinuk and the MEP Engineer is Jaros Baum & Bolles Consulting Engineers.
