A new report that compares the UK and French electrical contracting industries has revealed huge differences in the performance of firms in the two countries.
The analysis, from Plimsoll Publishing, reveals that French electrical contractors are stronger financially, with less debt.

The French market is also growing faster. Average sales growth in France is 14.6%, compared to the UK average of 10%. David Pattison, financial analyst for Plimsoll Publishing says: "For some years the UK market has shown very little growth. This has been feeding intense competition and causing reduced margins. The resulting problem is that UK companies have been forced to finance capital and losses to fight the competition. The French market, however, is booming and levels of debt are well below that of UK companies. The French seem to be able to finance growth out of normal cash flow."
