A team from Fulcrum Consulting has won the CIBSE Carbon 60 competition.
The aim of the competition was to find the best way of reducing carbon emissions from CIBSE’s Balham headquarters buildings in South London by 60%.

The winning entry tackles demand, supply and monitoring in order to achieve the carbon reductions cost-effectively. Proposals range from simple improvements in the building fabric to reduce energy consumption, external shading and replacing crt monitors with lcd flat screen technology, to more complex measures including solar water heating for the domestic hot water and the possible installation of a 7 kWe micro-chp unit.

The team of engineers comprised Kate Crawford, Chani Leahong, Susie Woollett, David Frank and Nick Boid. The runner-up team was Operon’s environmental division of Genex which included Carl Cressey, John Blears and Jason Richards.

Student commendation went to Nigel Banks from the University of Sheffield with a special commendation for innovation to Gordon Carswell of Potholes Inc.

The Fulcrum winners will be presented with the award at the CIBSE president’s awards dinner in October.
