Kevin Thomas thinks we should all try to partner, no matter where we are in the supply chain?

When I first read his column, I was incensed! How can a relatively small manufacturer influence the supply chain to this extent? Like many other suppliers, we often feel so far removed from the client that it’s difficult to get any information out of those above us, never mind have some input to the project as a whole. We have so much expertise in our specialist area, that I’m convinced that on many projects we could have saved clients time and money.

However, on consideration, I can see Kevin’s point. We should deal with our suppliers better, ask for their input and try to develop a more open attitude to working. This is very difficult though when we are being judged on costs alone, rather than the quality of our work. Still, I suppose partnering has to start somewhere.
