Maybe Virgin's new West Coast trains will run a little bit faster with help from Elequip.
Electrical contractor Elequip Projects has won an order worth over £10 million to manufacture and supply electrical control equipment for new trains that will service Virgin's West Coast mainline.

The company will supply the equipment directly to the main contractor, Alstom Transport of Birmingham for 53 nine-car trains due to start servicing the main London to Glasgow route in 2002.

Control equipment for the driver's cabs and passenger compartments is included in the order for the parts. The multiple unit trains will use the new tilt technology. The equipment is currently being delivered to Alstom after assembly at Elequip's Wigston manufacturing plant.

The order is the largest won by the company since its management team buy-out from Silvermines Group in 1999. The contract is due for completion in 2002.
