PHA Consult has acted as MEP consultant for the terminal hangar facility at New Mexico Spaceport, the home of Sir Richard Branson’s suborbital spaceflight company Virgin Galactic

The building was designed by Foster+Partners to blend into the desert landscape, providing self-shading to facades and pre-tempering fresh air via earth tubes.

The solar thermal heating should provide a 25% energy saving over an ASHRAE 2004 notional building. The project is aiming for LEED gold.
