A Sussex-based biometric and electronic security service firm, Winkelmann, has won an order worth £10,000 from Greece, following its participation in a ‘Meet the Buyers’ event organised by UK Trade & Investment.
Winkelmann specialises in the manufacture of advanced electronic countermeasure safety equipment, and under the terms of the new contract, will provide its security equipment to PASS Defence of Greece.
Winkelmann approached UK Trade & Investment to help it to develop overseas. The company participated in a ‘Meet the Buyers’ event held in Surrey in December 2004. Organised to help UK based security providers expand business overseas, the event reversed the usual exhibition format by placing buyers on exhibition stands, and enabled the company to meet a large cross section of potential overseas clients.
As a result, the company won orders worth £10,000 from PASS Defence and is looking forward to finalising a contract worth £15,000 with the Baltimore Police Department in the USA in the next couple of months.
Stephen Read, managing director of Winkelmann, said: “Participation in the Meet the Buyers event was the most effective way to expand business overseas. It helped us to interact with a large number of global buyers within a short time period and in the most cost efficient way.
“The event was very successful for our company. We signed-up our first contract only two weeks after having attended the event and have had considerable expression of interest in our products. It was a great, quick and easy way to do business.”
UK Trade & Investment is the government organisation that provides support services for UK companies trading overseas.
