David Wilson Homes is carrying out research into two major environmental areas as part of the work of its innovations committee.
The housebuilder has commissioned research into grey water recycling and heat retention and provision in new homes. "It is not innovation for innovation's sake," said Mike Stansfield, chief executive of David Wilson Homes "The committee is liaising with customer service staff to find out areas of inconvenience to customers and high maintenance costs so we can give added value."

The research, to be carried out by postgraduate students of University of Nottingham's School of the Built Environment, is the latest work inspired by the housebuilder's year-old innovations committee. So far the committee has prompted the housebuilder to introduce plastic plumbing and other products. The company is also trialling bathroom pods on sites in the East Midlands and is soon to open its own doorset manufacturing plant.
