An industry-wide research initiative that aims to shed new light on trends and customer perceptions is all set to begin.

The ‘Security Research Initiative’ – supported by the BSIA and The Security Institute (TSI), and run by Perpetuity Research and Consultancy International (PRCI) – will examine end user perceptions of security, the make-up of the industry and the real effectiveness of security equipment and services.

Talking to SMT about the project, PRCI director Professor Martin Gill commented: “We want to understand how clients view security companies and the services they provide. Specifically, we’ll address questions like: ‘What’s the current planning for future security spend?’ and ‘What are the main factors to influence this and why?’”

Geoff Whitfield – chairman of TSI – added: “The objective data generated will be invaluable in focusing suppliers and in-house security managers on the approaches needed to maximise crime prevention strategies.”

The project is scheduled to run over the next three years, its commencement date dependent on financial support. Sponsors will become Members of the initiative, and then receive considerable benefits (including early access to findings and discounts on publications and any future training initiatives).

Fancy signing on the dotted line as a Member of the ‘Security Research Initiative’? The cost for companies with over 50 employees is £5,000 (plus vat). For those firms with 50 employees or less it’s £2,500 plus vat.
