The Guinness Trust is to press ahead with high-profile London schemes despite losing out on the £200m government Challenge Fund (HT 21 November, page 7).
Over the past two weeks Guinness has signed deals on two schemes: one in Brixton, south London, and one in Hackney, east London. The projects will provide around 500 homes for shared ownership or rent.
Guinness chief executive Simon Dow said the Brixton scheme would be carried out by a consortium led by contractor Wates and housebuilder Barratt Homes. The work will provide around 300 homes for shared ownership and rent.
The £16m Hackney scheme, led by Guinness subsidiary Clapton Community Housing Trust, will be carried out by Laing Partnership. It will provide 168 homes, some of which will be for private sale.
CCHT is consulting residents about the project, as it was initially agreed that renovation was all that would be carried out.
