One in four directors of UK heating and ventilation equipment companies will be aged 60 or over by the end of 2005, suggesting the industry may be facing a shortage of experienced leaders.

This figure comes from industry analyst Plimsoll Publishing, whose latest study includes an analysis of the UK’s top 312 heating and ventilation companies and the 686 company directors responsible for them.

The report accesses how the directors’ decisions have influenced the financial performance of the companies for which they are accountable.

David Patterson, senior analyst at Plimsoll, said of the report: “The reason for most concern is that of the 363 directors who have been in office for over eight years, 42% will be aged 60 or more by the end of 2005. Is the the industry facing an experience timebomb as these veterans near retirement age?”

For some, however, retirement is not on the cards. The report found that 79 of the 686 directors were already working beyond retirement age.
