To increase security and privacy for berth-holders at Northney Marina on Hayling Island, three pontoon gates controlling access to the site have been automated using MEC 800 electro-hydraulic gate operators supplied by BPT Automation.
The private marina can accommodate 230 boats in its waters, with space for another 300 ashore. The site also has a number of shops, a boatyard and a sea school.
To secure the area installer Electronic Control Systems has added three automated swing gates, each of which provides access to a bridge leading down to the pontoon. The gates are all controlled by a separate air-cooled pump, suitable for the frequent duty cycles created by regular traffic flow at the marina – especially in the summer months.
Berth holders and members of staff each have their own PIN numbers that are entered into a digital keypad at all the gates, while a single push-button allows 'free' exit.
Colin James of Marine Developments, which manages the marina, commented: "The gates have been very successful in improving security, and have increased privacy for berth-holders by ensuring that passers-by can't wander around the area unsupervised."
