The NICEIC has officially launched a hazardous areas competence scheme that will enable approved contractors to extend the scope of their work to include a range of hazardous area works.
Following a successful pilot, a number contractors have been assessed against the hazardous areas requirements and issued with an NICEIC Extension to Enrolment Certificate for Hazardous Areas.

Although the scheme is as yet unaccredited, the NICEIC is working with UKAS, the UK Accreditation Service, to gain official accreditation. The NICEIC is promoting the scheme as an assurance to clients that a contractor has been assessed to work in hazardous areas; is qualified to enter contracts for work in such areas; and as proof that works are covered by the NICEIC Complaints Procedure and Guarantee of Standards Scheme.
