NHS Trusts are forming buying consortiums in an effort to cut costs, after the NHS purchasing and supply agency said that trusts must save two per cent on purchasing.
Chris Parsons, director of facilities at County Durham & Darlington Priority Services NHS Trust, said the trust has joined with North and South Durham to form a buying consortium, which has resulted in a four per cent year-on-year saving.
Parsons said the next step they are looking at is shared services for finance and HR with neighbouring trusts.
