The BioComposites Centre at the University of Wales, Bangor, does research work into sustainable, renewable resources and has come up with an environmentally sustainable, soft and easily manageable insulating material from locally grown hemp and flax. Blending the hemp and flax with a natural resin-based adhesive creates an entirely bio-derived product, called Natilin.

Like glasswool, Natilin comes in bails, has a similar loft and springiness, and gives an equivalent U-value for the same thickness. But its breathability reduces condensation, and it is easier to handle.
