Three major housing associations are in the race to take over the 3420 homes of troubled south London registered social landlord Beaver Housing.
Hexagon Housing Association, Hyde Housing and London & Quadrant Housing Trust have already undergone interviews and will have more this month before Beaver – placed under Housing Corporation supervision last April – makes its decision at a board meeting at the end of this month.
The corporation's "traffic light" assessment of RSLs' performance in September 2003 found that Beaver was in breach of the regulatory code around governance and management. It also failed to meet its development targets.
Beaver's board, which includes four members appointed by the corporation, has sppointed Hacas consultant Nick Dudman as acting chief executive, who will oversee the merger.
Beaver declined to comment.
It initially asked for prospectuses from six RSLs: Family, Kelsey and Wandle housing associations as well as the three shortlisted.
