Nick Ross, presenter of BBC TV’s Crimewatch UK, has officially opened the London Borough of Hillingdon’s new CCTV Control Room in memory of Jill Dando – his former co-presenter who was also president of the Hillingdon Crime Prevention Panel.
Over the last 12 months the Borough – second largest in the Capital – has undergone a considerable expansion of its CCTV scheme, which now covers three town centres (Hayes, Uxbridge and Ruislip). West Drayton, Yiewsley and a heritage site at Manor Farm in Ruislip are currently being added to the CCTV ‘web’.
In all, around 100 cameras are being monitored on a 24-hour basis, with recordings made on Vigilant’s dedicated systems.
