Home improvement agencies primarily provide a service for older and/or disabled homeowners to enable them to repair and adapt their homes so that they can remain in them for as long and as independently as possible.
Not all the agencies are managed. There is a significant number of independent agencies, including the one that I work for.
You also referred to care workers. The movement employs caseworkers or key workers and this makes a significant difference to how that role is perceived.
There are many examples of good practice and innovation in the movement and many agencies have strong links with health, social services and housing.
It is true that our work has been low-profile so it is extremely important that the publicity that the movement does get is accurate.
I was disappointed that your publication did not speak to our coordinating body Foundations or to Care & Repair England, who could have given information about the movement as a whole and its incredible diversity.
