The Housing Corporation has invoked rarely used statutory powers to force Clay’s Lane Housing Cooperative to hand over vital information.
Assistant chief executive Bob Dinwiddy took action after the east London co-op failed to tell the corporation who had been elected to its management committee.

Dinwiddy used section 30 of the 1996 Housing Act to require Clay’s Lane to submit the information by a specified date.

Failure to comply without good reason is an offence.

He also demanded details of legal action being taken to possess co-op members’ homes. The corporation said Clay’s Lane was seeking at least 20 court hearings and five evictions during January. Its total stock is 450.
