Why should team-building exercises be expensive corporate activities?
At the end of October we decided to do team-building by challenging our staff to raise £5000 in just five days in November for a charity, the Demelza House Children’s Hospice. We asked people to be creative and to have fun in raising the money. Our contractors, consultants and suppliers also gave great support to our efforts.
The result was the greatest team-building week that we have had in years. We thought £5000 was quite a challenge but so far the total raised has exceeded £11,000.
Our staff rose to the challenge. Different teams organised car washing; a run; a post service by Postman Pat; book, cake and video sales; and a sponsored clearance of two tenants’ gardens.
The week had all sorts of benefits. The atmosphere around the offices was buzzing, creative levels rose, team and cross working was excellent and the feelgood factor is high.
Most of the activities were done out of core hours and managers made sure there was no dip in our services to customers. I would recommend this kind of event to anyone wanting to do team-building.
