The HVCA has committed itself to membership of the Plumbing and Heating Industry Alliance (PHIA).
The PHIA, which is chaired by former HVCA president Chris Sneath, brings together manufacturers, suppliers, contractors and professionals in a forum for discussion and action on important industry issues.

Robert Higgs, HVCA director, said: "The establishment of the PHIA is a potentially valuable development for the residential sector. However, we do accept that significant results can only be achieved if all leading trade organisations commit to joint action.

"The HVCA has a wealth of experience in the areas of concern to the PHIA, but it is probably through our established political influence and long experience in a representational role that will deliver most benefit to the new body," Higgs added.

According to Sneath, a crucial PHIA objective will be to pass down to small and medium-sized firms the principles being developed via the Rethinking construction programme, along with greater health and safety awareness.
