A draft of the proposed prospectus for the formation of a new institution made up of members from the IIE and IEE has been unanimously accepted by the IIE Council.

The new organisation is provisionally called the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET).

The proposal, developed jointly by the IIE and IEE was accepted by a huge majority. Of the 44 council members eligible to vote, 43 were in favour of accepting the draft prospectus as the way forward, although a number of responses from Council members indicated that certain points require clarification. Concerns include the strength of influence that former IIE senior members have in governance of the IET.

The agreement means that both Institutions can now move forward to the next step in a process, which would eventually lead to putting the vote to the full corporate memberships of both institutions.
