Identity confirmed
TSSI is launching an innovative system for document protection using a combination of biometrics and structured magnetics. The EnGuard.ID, which has also been selected as a finalist in this year's Security Industry Awards, is a fully networked issuing and verification system that definitively links a person's physical characteristics to passports, ID cards, licenses and other certificates that are used for identification purposes.
Said to be one of the first highly secure, low-cost solutions of its kind in the market, EnGuard.ID offers multi-site, networked issuing by using its sophisticated data-capture capability, as well as both on and off-line verification. Portable battery-powered units are used to check both document and the person, and the unit can also be connected to a central database to download verification details.
The system is set in motion by taking photographs of the applicants at registration along with a scan of their fingerprint. Applicants are then assigned their official document containing a unique number in the structured magnetic stripe. The unique number, photograph and fingerprint data are encrypted and stored in a central database. At the same time, a barcode containing the same encrypted information is produced and printed onto the document.
Verification takes place in two stages. The barcode is decrypted and the structured magnetic number within the paper is compared with the stored data. To verify the identity of the carrier, their fingerprint is read and compared with the data from the 2D barcode.
