The Government has announced changes to the Asylum and Immigration Act 1996 in order to prevent the employment of illegal workers.
The changes came into force on 1 May and can be viewed on the Home Office web site at www.ind.homeoffice.gov.uk.

The new rules will apply to all new employees, including nationals of the ten new countries that joined the EU on 1 May 2004. They will require employers to make basic document checks on all prospective employees.
