In your novemebr edition you had two articles on embracing change (on the European Alarm Standards and consequences of IP networking on installers). In itself, embracing change in the industry is not a bad thing.
However, change may well be positive for some, but negative to the industry and our customers – the general public – as a whole. If say, ACPO suddenly decided that all alarm systems not only had to have the ability of confirmation but had to give a warning to those causing the confirmation, this would undoubtedly reduce wasted police time on false alarms (ie, many poorly paid cleaners have have a poor understanding of our culture and language). However, it would also allow criminals to escape and result in an overall loss to the general public.
All real changes need open debate in order to avoid potential disaster. Security Installer magazine is a much needed factor in industry changes. It gives a voice to the installer and in doing so gives a service to both the industry and the general public.
I only hope that some of those known as the great and the good read such letters and articles, and in doing so give thought to the public as a whole and not just any one particular sector in the industry.
