Laing O’Rourke was main contractor at site of former Royal Mail sorting office

Fit-out firm BW has completed work on a scheme to turn a former Royal Mail sorting office in London’s West End into the new UK headquarters for US management consultant McKinsey & Company.

Laing O’Rourke was main contractor on the job for Oxford Properties and Brockton Capital which involved tearing down part of the 1960s building on New Oxford Street under designs drawn up by AHMM.

The first and second levels were not removed leaving a horseshoe-shaped space at the centre of the site.

The 320,000 ft2 mixed-use building features a 7,000 ft2 rooftop garden that provides 360-degree views of the capital.

Interior architect on the scheme was MoreySmith with CBRE the project manager and cost consultant on the job.

McKinsey was previously based at 1 Jermyn Street for 25 years.
