BSRIA has issued a new publication to rationalise conflicting terms and schemes used by different sources in the drive to improve quality, safety, cost-effectiveness and energy.

Competent persons: their role in construction defines what a competent person is, their role, and how a competent person or firm can be used to improve standards in the industry.

This new publication summarises the relevant initiatives and schemes including the Quality Mark approved contractors schemes, Constructionline, performance standards, specialist self-certification, Best Practice, and Part L of the Building Regulations.

It defines the drivers for the development of competent persons and outlines the mechanisms involved in building regulation. The publication aims to make sense of the different options available to help readers decide which competency route is right for them.
