Instant ASBOs are unfair

I see Irwell Valley Housing Association chief executive Tom Manion would like to have powers to issue on-the-spot antisocial behaviour orders and evictions (“Landlords to take stage in nuisance crackdown”, 14 March, page 9).

Does he believe that mortgage lenders should have the same powers over owner-occupiers?

These new laws are a further step in the stigmatisation and marginalisation of social housing tenants.

Unfortunately, they are part of a trend that, over the past 25 years, has turned much social housing from a tenure of choice into a residual service.
