In the UK two more housing associations have built homes based on the Integer model of sustainable housing. Architect Bree and Day has designed a terrace of 19 apartments and eight houses (above) for Maidenhead and District Housing Association that feature a host of intelligent and green features. The roof has been laid with Alpine turf to absorb CO2 and rainwater and features a bank of energy saving photovoltaic and solar panels. Grey water recycling, large conservatories, passive stack ventilation and sunpipes also help to cut the costs of running the homes, which will be available to tenants from as little as £59 per week.
The other development is in Harlow where Swan Housing Association has built 12 apartments. With more developments all over the UK in the pipeline Integer is extending its pilot education scheme. "From the Classroom to World Construction and Sustainability" will enable children from all over the UK to visit Integer developments to study curriculum subjects such as chemistry, physics, maths, design and technology, IT, citizenship and housing.
