This award is bestowed upon the company or organisation that best demonstrates the integration of manned security with electronic systems to the ultimate benefit of the client
winner:Reliance High-Tech
Arlington Business Parks are said to be a perfect example of manpower working side-by-side with technology. Perfectly manicured lawns offer a welcome contrast to conventional business parks, while high security and standards of management are maintained at all times. The CCTV at each park, installed by Reliance High-Tech, offers local recording for review in working hours. These cameras, along with the ANPR systems, are managed by a minimal Reliance personnel at each site. After hours, the facility is remotely managed by monitoring staff at the dedicated Reliance Control Room. Mobile response is available should it be needed. Manpower and electronic security complement each other perfectly here, ensuring that the client minimises operational costs.
“A very impressive balance has been achieved between manpower and technology to the client’s satisfaction”

Runners-Up
Andover Controls-Integral
The management team at Salford Quays Shopping Centre in Manchester operates a large scale integrated building and security management solution provided by Andover Controls. An Integral digital CCTV system and Continuum building management system bring security staff much better surveillance systems and overall operational co-ordination. Security events that have been recorded can now be found quickly thanks to the Integral ‘Smart Search’ facility. The comprehensive, event-driven system reduces the need for walking tours by security personnel and cuts the manpower requirement by 30%.
Intruder International
Farnborough Airport needed CCTV, access control, intruder detection, vehicle access, a taxiway restriction system and ANPR. The buildings are spread across a wide area, and therefore cabling back to a central Control Room would have been too expensive. In response to the need, Intruder installed a fibre optic backbone that connected all key facilities. Just one fibre optic cable was converted into a dedicated 100 Mbit TCP/IP Ethernet network designed to carry all traffic in the system. The security installation requires minimal intervention, allowing the client to cut back on manned security numbers on site.
Co-operative Group
The Nottingham Regional Distribution Centre of the Co-operative Group services 350 Co-op food stores and, as you would expect, plays host to some highly valuable goods. To fight back against a history of crime that has consitently plagued the site, partnerships were purposely set up with security suppliers with the aim of putting a series of security measures in place. An access control system was introduced for employees, with all access movements now recorded on CCTV. The project – the central aim of which was to remove the need for static guarding on site – has resulted in a more efficient security service, with the site’s perimeter boundaries now controlled by electronic detection devices.
Vaulted Image Technologies
Vaulted Image Technologies and Knightsbridge Guarding are partners providing manned guarding alongside IP-based security services. Recently, Kajima – the large construction corporation – needed a total security solution that provided manned guarding in tandem with 24-hour electronic security. Access control, time and attendance monitoring and CCTV were all installed on site with full control and monitoring facilities provided by the guarding company’s Control Room in London. Records casn now be built up for each contractor detailing all movements, largely thanks to the combination of manpower, electronic security systems and IP.
Vista CCTV TEAM
Vista TEAM – Transaction EPoS and ATM Monitoring – is designed to combat retail fraud. The company states that, for medium-sized retailers and nationwide stores, it will offer a swift return on investment. Till monitoring provides an easily searchable method for recording and reviewing transaction and CCTV data, either at a till or an ATM machine.
