The specialist engineering sector must come together to pool its ideas on supply chain integration, according to Trevor Hursthouse, chairman of the Specialist Engineering Contractors' (SEC) Group.

"There are tremendous opportunities for specialist engineers to play a key role in supply chain integration," he explains. "But to maximise their effectiveness all organisations within the sector must develop a common agenda."

Later this year, the SEC Group will host a meeting for consultants, contractors and manufacturers involved in the delivery of specialist engineering systems and products such as electrical, mechanical, lift engineering and steel construction.

Hursthouse adds: "We are starting with an open agenda, but we must be prepared to address the issues that are of interest to our clients and others with whom we work.

"By working together we can provide the available engineering solutions – and so deliver Best Value through best practice."
