The runners up

Arup
Arup’s submission describes the building services work undertaken on the world’s first tall thermally-flued building, a headquarters building for GSW in Berlin. The client’s required an environmentally-friendly building:
Arup’s solution uses natural ventilation for around 70% of the year controlled by a thermal flue. In extreme weather conditions, mechanical ventilation can be used to improve comfort. FaberMaunsell
The Millennium Wing of the National Gallery of Ireland opened to the public in January 2002. M&E services were designed by FaberMaunsell; the firm had to maintain close control of conditions in the galleries and collection handling area. Lighting also had to be carefully controlled to avoid artwork being exposed to excessive levels of ultraviolet and direct light. Flack & Kurtz (UK)
Flack + Kurtz opened a Paris office in September 2000 in response to a large number of projects being won in France and Continental Europe. The Coeur Defense project in Paris, the International School in Toulouse and the Madone building in Paris all explain why the company’s reputation in France has grown. Hurley Palmer Flatt
The UK consultancy entered its work on a development of luxury villas in Portugal, where it developed the use of low energy ground cooling technology as an alternative to domestic air conditioning.
