Introduced for the first time in 2004, this award is designed to recognise any UK company or individual demonstrating an outstanding achievement or improvement in foreign sales/exports or security projects
winner: Pyronix
Upon joining the World Trade Organisation, China agreed that it would operate its markets such that foreign and national manufacturers alike would be treated in exactly the same way. Previously, it had been a problem that foreign manufacturers were adopting different engineering standards than Chinese companies. In early 2002, a new scheme was announced by the China Certification Centre (CCC) for Security and Protection, requiring that intruder alarm detectors be submitted to testing by the Chinese authorities using Chinese standards. Pyronix was keen to encompass those standards and gain CCC approval for its systems. The company worked closely with its Chinese distributor, with all equipment passing the standards laid down. In April 2003, Pyronix was duly granted CCC certification.
“A genuine security ‘first’ that places Pyronix in a terrific position to capitalise on what is a huge systems marketplace”

Runners-Up
CSL Communications
CSL first launched its DualCom GSM product into the Spanish market. Although well received, as clients primarily deployed control panels with built-in digi-modems, the telephone path of DualCom GSM wasn’t being used. Discussions between the company and its Spanish customers resulted in the development of DualCom Duet – an advanced auto-dialling communication device that works in synch with a digi-modem. One that’s compatible with panels using DTMF fast format and Contact ID protocols. Sales of the product in Spain have now reached over 2,000 units.

Task International
In November last year, two of Task International’s senior personnel travelled to Trinidad to participate in a DESO Exhibition aboard HMS Manchester. With crime having risen in Trinidad in the past year, Task was contracted to the Special Anti-Crime Unit of Trinidad and Tobago (SAUTT), demonstrating its ability to perform to the highest level in training programmes and accreditations. SAUTT personnel were trained in hostage rescue, weapons handling and teamwork, while a special Commanders’ course ensured that all participants were working towards the same aim as part of well-drilled units.
The Corps
Papua New Guinea is a developing country with 80% unemployment, high levels of corruption and poverty and low educational standards. Serious crime is commonplace. The Corps has been operating here for eight years, providing a diverse range of security services including manned guarding, dog patrols, armed guards, Cash-in-Transit services and technical services (ie alarm installation and response). From a 740,000 Kina (local currency) loss in 2000-2001, The Corps’ operating profit in the country is now 585,000 Kina.
