Track Safe Telecom of Cardiff, who proposed an IP CCTV network for new and expanded CCTV systems for 21 railway stations on the Arriva Trains Wales Network in conjuction with Gardiner Security, have won the contract.
Track Safe Telecom has a 20 year track record of installing and maintaining CCTV systems at stations throughout Wales and the South West. The contract was won against 42 other competing companies. Gardiner Security was called in to survey each site and will supply all the equipment required.

The proposed system, based on an IP network technology combined with high capacity digital recorder/multiplexers will cover a large mix of locations, including pedestrian and vehicular entrances and exits, platforms, waiting rooms, shelters, footbridges, subways, displays, information points and public telephones.

The system will control and monitor up to 20 cameras per station, allowing images to be viewed on standard PCs located anywhere on the operator's network. Vantage cameras have been specified to maximise surveillance and conformance to Arriva Trains Wales specification. Silent Witness cameras have also been specified to reduce vandalism in subway and shelter areas.

The cameras specified will work at low light levels, providing at least seven days information of evidence-quality footage. And the Adpro Fastrace remote access digital video recorders will provide the backbone of the system, offering complete viewing control of cameras, telemetry and remote audio connections for the stations' information points.

Track Safe Telecom's managing director said: "As an approved installer to the railway industry, we have combined our knowledge of Network Rail's safety standards with Gardiner's expertise in modern CCTV systems."
