I was pleased to see an item on homeless persons officers (HT 13 July, page 53), particularly as it is increasingly difficult to recruit people to this very important job.
However, I would like to correct the statement that formal qualifications are needed to consider such a role. Although qualifications are welcomed, it is more important to have good communication and interpersonal skills, be able to understand complex legislation and be equipped to cope with working in a pressurised environment.
