Laing O’Rourke awards mechanical contract for London hotel

Birmingham-based m&e contractor J S Wright has clinched the biggest-value deal in its history. The company has won a £10m contract with main contractor Laing O’Rourke to fit out London’s latest City Inn hotel in time for the 2012 Olympics.

The hotel, designed by architect Bennetts Associates, is being built near Fenchurch Street Station in the historic heart of the capital. J S Wright will be providing all the eco-friendly mechanical services for the 584-bed high-rise property.

J S Wright will be working with design consultancy Faber Maunsell in providing a range of energy efficient, environmentally clean, and cost effective services including a ground-source geothermal heating and cooling system and a combined heat and power (CHP) plant. It will also be fitting all the heating, ventilation, chilled water, above ground drainage, sprinklers, and hot and cold water services throughout the hotel and car park over a project period of 64 weeks.

J S Wright managing director Marcus Aniol said: “It’s a tremendous tribute to our highly professional team to have been commissioned by Laing O’Rourke to carry out our biggest-ever project for our first City Inn hotel.”

The company has won this magazine’s coveted M&E Contractor of the Year Award for the last two years running.
