A major change in Jersey's building bye-laws came into effect from 1 September.
The new requirement stipulates: "A fixed electrical installation in a building must be designed, installed, inspected and tested so as to provide reasonable protection against the installation or any part of it being a source of fire or a cause of injury."
The bye-law also states that the work must be carried out by a competent person, who is defined as: "a person who is registered as a competent electrical installation engineer with a third party certification body accredited by UKAS to EN 45013.
Registration can be applied for under the NICEIC Personnel Certification scheme, which is fully UKAS-accredited. For more details contact the NICEIC by calling 020 7564 2320.
