This month sees the introduction of two additional members to Security Management Today's Editorial Advisory Board.
Chief constable Ian Johnston CBE of the British Transport Police (BTP) retains a number of roles within ACPO, including the lead on crime training and his position in the National Crime Faculty.

57-year-old Johnston was awarded the Queen's Police Medal in the 1995 New Year Honours List.

Ian is a Bramshill Scholar, and in 1982 obtained a First Class Honours Degree in social administration at the London School of Economics. He then attended the senior command course in 1989 before moving on to the Kent County Constabulary, where he served as assistant chief constable in charge of administration and supply, and then operations.

Ian subsequently held several postings in the Metropolitan Police Service, including a role as assistant commissioner for territorial policing. He was appointed chief constable of the BTP on 1 May 2001.

Our other joiner is 42-year-old Byron Miller, who replaces Gemma Hawes as deputy manager (property and household division) at the Association of British Insurers (ABI).

Byron holds a Masters degree in disaster management from Cranfield University, graduating back in 2000.

Prior to completing his degree, he worked in the public sector for the Greater London Council and the London Borough of Brent.

Byron joined the ABI two months ago, and now specialises in risk and disaster management. He's also a director of independent consultant Anderson Grounds, which specialises in economic and social development projects.

SMT would like to welcome Ian and Byron to the Board.
