High-flying apprentices from around the country have been championed at the JTL National Awards, held at the House of Lords in London on 14 July.
The event saw 22 year-old Yorkshire electrician, Kevin Pearson, hailed as the country’s top electrical apprentice when he won the Frank Chapple Cup and a £2250 cash prize.
Former JTL apprentice Pearson, who was trained by and works for Lilleker Bros, also won the North East and Yorkshire Area Region Award.
The Roy Howard Shield for Commitment to Health and Safety went to JTL electrical apprentice Andrew Gaskell, from JRH Electrical Services in Lancashire.
Pearson and the nine other regional winners were rewarded for their achievement in obtaining high results in the industry’s AM2 test. The winners each received a cash prize, a plaque and a certificate of achievement, presented by Lord Randall of St Budeaux and JTL chair Bob Harris.
Plumbing apprentice, 20 year-old Daniel Ashburn was presented with the JTL award for Outstanding Achievement in Plumbing and Mechanical Engineering Services. Ashburn, who works for ME Billington, was recognised for the practical work and conduct that he applies to his plumbing apprenticeship.
Bob Harris, boss of RT Harris, said: “JTL is committed to ensuring the building services sector receives the best qualified and skilled craftspeople. The National Awards are just one way in which we like to recognise the young people who are the future of the industry and I am delighted to present these awards.”
