The recently-launched New Car Security Rating (NCSR) Scheme will award up to five 'stars' to new makes of car, depending on how effective they are at deterring thieves from either stealing the car itself or some of its contents.
Only those cars fitted with laminated side glass as standard will be eligible for five stars in the 'theft from' category.
The NCSR Scheme was set up following the Government's call in 1999 to reduce UK car crime by 30% over the next five years. Its been devised after research by the Vehicle Crime Reduction Action Team.
Laminated side glazing derives its strength from a robust Saflex polyvinyl butyral interlayer. In practice, the glass remains adhered to the interlayer and firmly within the window frame despite any vigorous attacks from hammers and similar 'weapons'.
