T.K. Consultants have just published their latest schedule of training courses, which embody a number of changes suggested by past students. The intruder alarm installation course has had an extra Hands-On Day added to take full advantage of the workshop facility and the extensive range of control equipment, both old and new, that is available for students to practise on.
The advanced installation course now covers more of the new European Standard BS EN 50131 and explains the ACPO Policy and how it relates to remote signalling systems and false alarm management. All current methods of remote signalling are covered, including Redcare, Paknet, digital communicators and dual signalling systems.
An optional second day management course is now provided which includes basic bookkeeping, use of personal computers, small company organisation with an explanation of BS ISO 9000 and its relevance to a budding security installer.
The recently published Government White Paper on Regulation of the Security Industry is discussed. This short course is considered essential to those installers applying for inspectorate registration and who are anxious not to miss out when the trade is regulated.
The popular locksmith's skills course, with Security Installer columnist Mike Lynskey as tutor will now have an optional extra day on setting up a locksmith's business.
Support in key areas
Panasonic is supporting your business in two key areas, sales training and technical training. Sales training introduces the product line for 1999 and the Millennium, covering advances such as the WJ-DR200 DVD recorder. Technical training covers topics ranging from programming a complex multiplexer or matrix system to practical hands-on time-lapse VTR servicing.
All training courses are one day duration and free of charge. Both sales and technical training will be at the same venue on the same day, conducted in separate rooms. The venues are in Bracknell, Stoke, Glasgow and Newcastle.
New CCTV sales course
Sony Broadcast & Professional's new training schedule has been expanded to include a course on CCTV Sales training. This extensive one day course offers a theoretical and hands-on overview of the Sony CCTV product range.
Delegates are guided through all aspects of Sony cameras, VCRs, monitors and PMS systems. Practical exercises using Sony CCTV equipment are used to ensure that maximum knowledge is gained.
By attending the course, delegates will gain a Sony UK overview, an introduction to the Sony CCTV range, practical use of cameras, lenses, VCRs and monitors and an overview of transmission systems.
The sales training course is suitable for newcomers to the CCTV industry. It can be delivered on the customer site or in dedicated training facilities at Sony's offices in Basingstoke.
Practical presentation
An interactive handbook of CCTV has been produced on CD by Constant Consultants, who claim: "It provides the most comprehensive coverage of CCTV and associated subjects in a thoroughly practical presentation."
There are 21 main sections and more than 80 sub-sections, equivalent to over 450 book pages, excluding drawings and diagrams. All the pages in the handbook are laid out in the same way, so navigating rapidly becomes second nature.
All the relevant formulae used in CCTV are provided in the text, but you can put your calculator away and go to the 'calc' page where there are 12 calculation programs covering the main requirements for designing any CCTV system. A set of self-assessment modules allows you to check your progress and level of knowledge.
Ultrak meets the need
Ultrak UK is answering growing demand from authorities by offering installer training up to the nationally recognised NVQ standard. Managing director Bill O'Connell said: "More and more, police, insurers and inspectorates are asking for more than just informal experience, especially on the bigger, higher value contracts."
The courses are designed specifically for security installers so no-one is wasting valuable time being taught anything irrelevant to their job. The newly improved demo and training facility at the company's Preston HQ is fully equipped, giving all trainees real hands-on experience plus back-up information.
Courses currently available include: foundation in CCTV, CCTV troubleshooting, managing CCTV, design and project management, CCTV sales and system design and telemetry and control equipment.
Sito re-launches web-site
In an effort to improve its ability to provide information to the industry, SITO has re-launched its web-site. The new site, which includes information on products and initiatives, along with breaking news and information on international partners, is designed to be more informative and user-friendly than the one previously available.
SITO says the changes seem to have worked, with more than 500 visitors a week now accessing the site. Moreover, there have been improvements to call handling and the launch of a new Intranet to ensure quick access to information for staff handling customer enquiries. Later this year an on-line booking system is also expected to go live.
The grant, which is the largest received from the European Union for security training to date, will be used to produce ten hours of high quality multi-media training material for both the security systems and manned guarding sectors. The first outputs of the project are expected towards the end of this year.
