May I say that Mr Turtle (Take a reality check, QS News, 15 July) needs to turn his jaundiced view of real QSs around – we are not all tarred with the same brush, nor do we act like idiots in calculating finite hip rafter lengths, life is too short.
Unfortunately, scholastic establishments no longer give students detailed instruction on measurement, so much so that we have to teach degree holders how to measure quantities. Most do not know construction details either, so how can they measure from inadequate information? We can only produce accurate documentation from good information.
I am pleased to say that I have enjoyed my career as a bill-bashing, number-crunching, scale-rule slapping and crystal ball gazing QS, and look forward to retirement in less than three years, leaving Michael Byng to teach his own generation and followers.
