Development of added value lighting products, offering a greater spectrum of visible light, more flexibility, lower running costs and greater control have stimulated growth in markets such as retail, leisure and office. Such innovations include light emitting diodes.
However, underlying value growth has been constrained, mainly by the lamps sector, which accounts for around 29% of the UK market. Even though volume demand is rising, lamps have suffered from price erosion.
Low labour costs and other economic factors have resulted in shifts in import trends. China, Poland and Hungary have seen increases in this market, with manufacturers moving operations to these countries.
The UK lighting market report, priced £545, is available from AMA Research: www.amaresearch.com.
