On celebrating its 50th anniversary this year, the Worshipful Company of Lightmongers has re-established a tradition by creating two journeymen.
David Rooney a senior contracts engineer with ECA-member Lee Beesley and Lieutenant Paul Thomson RN, information systems officer on HMS Invincible, are the first to become journeymen.
The position is one that a craftsperson traditionally took at the end of an apprenticeship to gain skills and experience. Two or three journeymen will be selected each year for a scheme which will last about three years. After this they will be invited to become a freeman of the Worshipful Company of Lightmongers.
