Local authorities are set to become sustainable energy pioneers in a document published by The Town and Country Planning Association and the Combined Heat and Power Association.
The document calls for “a step change” in the generation and supply of electricity. This entails a transition to decentralised energy and power based on low- and zero-carbon technology.
The guide sets out options for creating a strategic approach to CO2 reductions that includes setting up local combined heat and power plant, communal solar and wind generation, biomass heating and small hydro-electric plant.
The TCPA and CHPA published the 62-page document as the government wraps up its consultation on renewable heat technologies and barriers to their use.
