The social housing sector figured strongly again this year in a list of the UK’s best employers

London & Quadrant Group moved from 29th in 2004 to number 12 in this year’s Sunday Times list of the best 100 companies to work for.

The newspaper reported that 82% of L&Q staff thought they made a positive difference to the world and 80% said if they left they would miss working with residents.

Sally Jacobson, human resources director at L&Q, said: “I really believe having happy staff who want to make a difference helps us deliver a professional and efficient service to our residents.”

Newcomers to The Sunday Times list included Southdown Housing Association, ranked 32; Advance Housing & Support, at 53; and residential care homes company Brunelcare at 85. The charity Sandwell Community Caring Trust also made the top 10.

The newspaper’s list of the 100 best small companies to work for included Irwell Valley Housing Association, which fell from 17th place last year to 41st.

Newcomers to the list were supported housing provider Norcare at 33, housing association East Homes at 77 and charity Broadway, which ranked 84th.
